LADYSMITH - Alice Adeline Carlyon Mitschka passed away peacefully on December 8, 2014 at the Ladysmith Care and Rehab facility. She was born on November 18th, 1922 in Racine, Wisconsin at St. Mary's Hospital to Anton and Valasta (Pulda) Ruzicka. In 1940, Alice graduated from the Union Grove High School with honors where her father had been principal for 33 years. She attended and graduated from Racine Teachers' College, University of Wisconsin Whitewater and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh majoring in education. She taught kindergarten and primary grades in Union Grove, the Madison area and in Colby, WI. On July 17th she was joined in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lawrence "Bud" Carlyon. They were married in the chapel at the Greenville, SC Army Air Force Base where Bud was in charge of the medical lab. They became owners of the Carlyon Drug Store in Colby, WI. Bud passed away on Dec. 21, 1982 in Hayward WI and Alice moved back to Ladysmith, WI where she met Karl Mitschka. Alice and Karl were married at the Congregational UCC church in Ladysmith in 1985. Karl passed away in 1991. Alice was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, active in the Rusk County Hospital Auxiliary, WEA and other teachers and community organizations. She had been active in Brownies, Girl Scouts and had taught Sunday and Bible School. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lawrence "Bud" Carlyon and Karl Mitschka; brother, Robert (Betty) Ruzicka; and sister, Doris (Les) Boeck. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Carlyon of Burnsville, MN; grandsons, Jordan, Zachary and Seth Carlyon; sister, Gladys (Allyn) Nelson of Apple Valley, MN; and many nephews a niece. A memorial service will be held at the Congregational UCC church in Ladysmith Tuesday, January 13th, 2014 at noon. A private interment will be held in the spring at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward, WI. Memorials may be made to the Congregational UCC Church School. She loved so many and so many loved her, she will be missed by all of us but she gave us beautiful memories that will last us our lifetime.
