Alf Grande

from Burbank, California, United States

ALF LUDVIK "LUD" GRANDE Lud passed away in his home in Burbank, California on October 13, 2016. He was born on June 13, 1924 in Bisbee, North Dakota to the late Alf Ludvik Grande and Olaine (Lena) Kjerstine Fjar. He and his five siblings grew up on their family farm. He graduated from North Dakota State College in 1946 where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Science, he married Darleen Mae Cotten that same year. They lived in North Dakota where he taught high school Agriculture in several cities before moving to Burbank, California in 1951. After working at Lockheed for 25 years, he established Grande Tax Service from which he retired in 2008 to care for the love his life Darleen until her passing in 2012. Although he worked hard to take care of his family, playing music was his passion. He sang and played the guitar and electric bass in many bands; the one closest to his heart was his Canyon Country Band. For the last three decades, the Canyon Country Band could be seen throughout Burbank at the Elks, the American Legion, the Moose Club and up until April of this year the VFW. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Lolly Munchweiler of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughters, Roberta Grande Reynolds (husband Brian Jorgensen) and Ludonna Grande Loney (husband Ed); grandchildren, Danielle Kuester (husband Justin), Stephanie Rollofson (husband Cole), Kelly and Ryan Loney; and great grandson, Bryce Kuester, his "little outlaw." A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 12th, 4:00pm, at American Lutheran Church, 755 N. Whitnall Hwy, Burbank. Immediately following the service a celebration of Lud's life will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1006 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Burbank VFW Ship 8310 or American Lutheran Church.
