Alexandro "Alex" Marquez, 88, a long time resident of Las Vegas, went to meet our Lord on Dec. 27, 2013. He was born on Jan. 14, 1925. He is survived by his loving children, Alex Marquez Jr. and wife, Pauline, Gloria Martinez and husband, Michael, Christine Montoya, Roger Marquez and wife, Connie, Mitchell Marquez, Walter Marquez and wife, Rebecca, Angela Guerin and husband, David, Virginia Trujillo and husband, Ralph, Diann Valdez and husband, Frank, Cynthia Marquez, Ralph Marquez and wife, Theresa, and Noel Marquez. He was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Vincent Marquez; sister, Tina Marquez; brother, Ralph Marquez and wife, Georgia; sister, Fedelina Vazquez and husband, Raymond and sister-in-law, Margie Zamora and husband, Lucio and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Tessie Marquez; father and mother, Raphael and Fedelina Marquez; sisters, Estella Marquez, and Estella Solano and several other family members.As a young man he worked and owned two gas stations in Las Vegas until he began his career with PNM and then retired after 28 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church and served as a mayordomo and usher for many years. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge, a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He enjoyed many things but his favorites were working on cars, dancing and hunting.A viewing of Alex Marquez will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. today (Monday) at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel for family and friends to pay their respects. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today (Monday) at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday also at Immaculate Conception Church by Rev. George Salazar. Interment will follow the mass at the Santo Nino Cemetery in lower Rociada. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Jesse Marquez, Dominic Martinez, Michael Montoya, John Valdez, Cristobal Trujillo and Antonio Marquez.
