Alan Paul Smith 1926 ~ 2017Alan Paul Smith, 90, passed away in his home surrounded by family on August 4, 2017. He was born on August 20, 1926 in Manti, Utah to Paul and Genive Hicken Smith. He married Betty Herron on June 9, 1962 at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked as a court reporter for the State of Utah, California and Kansas for 37 years. He served during World War II in the Navy and in the Air Force in the Pacific Theater. He served as commander of the American Legion in Manti, Utah.He is survived by his wife, Betty; 6 children: Linda (Bob) Houston, Susan (Dave) Gornik, Wilfred Steimann, Vickie (Doug) Talbot, Matt (Kathleen) Smith, Alison (Zagg) Taylor; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kendallee Thornton.Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe and one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
