Yurik "Yogi" Boris 1926 - 2015 Yurik "Yogi" Boris, 88, passed away on May 19, 2015 at St. Joseph's Nursing Home. Yogi was a lifelong resident of Kenosha. He was born on Aug. 2, 1926, the oldest son of Alex and Stella (Brzuskiewicz) Boris. He attended Lincoln Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Mary D Bradford High School in 1945. He attended The University of Wisconsin at Madison and had a short stint in Hollywood, Calif., trying to break in to the movie business with his lifelong friend Ray Rosko, before beginning his career at American Motor Corporation in Kenosha. He married Helen Zwick on July 29, 1961 at the Church of the Gesu in Milwaukee. They shared many adventures until Helen passed away on Dec. 4, 1998. In his younger years, Yogi played softball with the "400" Club. He was a charter member of the Olympian Club. Their monthly meetings and annual parties made for great friendships that lasted a lifetime. Later, many of the "Olympians" became weekly golf league members. Together, they spent a lot of years playing local courses, and even some in warmer, more exotic locations, on annual getaways. Yogi was an active UAW Local 72 member. He retired from the Motors in 1987. Yogi will be remembered for his generosity and compassion for others. He loved to dance and enjoyed jazz music. He attended many annual Jazz Festivals that were held throughout the country. Yogi was a Packer fan and he held season tickets when they still played games at The Milwaukee County Stadium. Yogi loved to travel and his later years, he especially took a liking to cruising. He went up and down the Mississippi, to the Caribbean, and to Alaska. He even went to see the places where his parents were born, in Poland and in Russia. Yogi is survived by: his daughter Marie (Todd) Hardy, siblings Larry (Nancy) Boris, Redmond, Wash.; Lila (Paul) Ellefson, Kenosha and Washington Island; Richard (Carol) Boris, Kenosha; Bernie Boris, Arlington, Tex.; and Helen (Richard) Lienesch, Marion, Mont. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Yogi was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 7 p.m. at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment will take place on Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m. in St. George Cemetery. A visitation for Yogi will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 29, from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
