LUMBERTON – Wilton Maxwell "Bill" Sessoms, 97, of Lumberton, died on Oct. 25, 2016, at Wesley Pines Nursing Center in Lumberton. He was born on March 16, 1919, to the late Samuel Maxwell and Margaret McKellar Barnes Sessoms.
He was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was honored with the American Theater Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, one Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Annie Lula Herring Sessoms; and a daughter, Jimmie Lou Sessoms Carter.
Mr. Sessoms is survived by a son-in-law, Billy Carter of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Dean Carter (Bianca) of Fayetteville, and Melissa Dyer (Jonathan) of Indian Trail; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Carter, Ava Carter, Carter Dyer, and Chloe Dyer; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Meadowbrook Cemetery with Rev. Michael Bowen officiating. A time of visitation will follow the service at the graveside.
