Wilma Jean Lorraine Jackson, age 96, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at John Knox Manor Nursing Home in Montgomery, Alabama.
Wilma was born in Montgomery, Alabama on June 21, 1921, but grew up in Brewton, Alabama. She graduated from T.R. Miller High School, Brewton, Alabama in 1939; graduated from Draughon Business College, Montgomery, Alabama in 1940; worked for the State of Alabama Bureau of Vital Statistics; was a Bookkeeper for Jones Brothers Oil Company; and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Baptist Hospital South, Montgomery, Alabama.
Wilma married Jonathan Jackson, of Louisville, Kentucky, June 14, 1942. Mrs. Jackson was a charter member of the Montgomery Community of Christ Church. She was a devoted wife, loving Mother, and homemaker. The joys of her life were in the service of her Lord Jesus Christ, and in loving and caring for her home, family and friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jonathan Jackson; her parents, Benjamin Leslie Jernigan and Lula Jane Thompson Jernigan; two sisters, Freida A. Jernigan and Verla Jernigan Higgs. She is survived by her two children, Betsy Jernigan Jackson (Jim) of Louisville, Kentucky, Benjamin Jernigan Jackson (Jo) of Pine Level, Alabama; two grandchildren, Lesleigh Shewmake Batchelor (Don) of Atlanta, Georgia and Shelby Dayne Jackson of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister, Gloria Jernigan of Montgomery, Alabama; and one sister-in-law, Helen McNeill Russell of Rochester, Michigan.
Visitation will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama, 36109, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Funeral services will be celebrated at the Community of Christ Church, 315 Bell Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36117 on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. with Evangelist Richard Dour and Evangelist Gary Howard officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Level United Methodist Church Cemetery Pine Level, Alabama 36065. A memorial service has been conducted to celebrate the glorious life of Wilma Jean from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the same location as the wake ceremony (Leak-Memory Chapel).
