Wilma Evlyn Doney Obituary

Jan 30, 1937 - Jan 24, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Wilma Evlyn DoneyWilma Evlyn (Barker) Doney was loved by so many and will be missed dearly by all those she leaves behind. Wilma passed peacefully on January 24th 2017 after fighting a strong battle against Alzheimer's disease. Wilma was born on January 29th, 1937 in Fort Morgan, CO to Roy(Dutch) and Vera Barker. She graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in 1955, and married the love of her life Donald (Don) Doney. They were married for 32 years, before Don passed in 1987. Wilma was known to many in the Ft. Collins community for her 29 years of service to the City of Ft. Collins as an Operations Supervisor at Transfort. Unknowingly, countless Ft. Collins residents depended on her daily for public transportation. But her transportation of precious cargo started long before her career with Transfort. She began driving a school bus in Ft. Morgan, and then later for the Poudre R-1 School District from 1970-1978. In 1978, she was hired as one of 12 total drivers for Transfort who now employs over 100 drivers. In 1994, the Coloradoan did a news article on Wilma "Bus passengers shuttled by goodwill ambassador". They spotlighted the love and dedication Wilma had for her job, and the care she had for every passenger on her bus. Wilma was an accomplished seamstress that refused to be compensated for her work. Co-workers, friends and family would often bring Wilma their torn garments, prom and wedding dresses needing altered, or family heirloom quilts for repairs. In return she asked that they pay it forward and help someone else in need. She enjoyed creating her own patterns out of newspapers and designing her own dresses. She was famous for making elaborate, personalized holiday and princess dresses and costumes for the local 4-H club dance teams. Wilma also enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. Her prize flowers were her pink roses that her husband Don gave her and she planted in front of their home. She was a very devoted Denver Broncos fan, and could often be found controlling the outcome of the game by yelling at the TV. But most importantly Wilma will be remembered for her devotion to her family. She was her husband's caretaker when he got terminal ill, and later in life she was her mother's caretaker. She was extremely proud of her 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She could always be found with their pictures in her purse and on her wall. She leaves behind her children Dwayne (Linda) Doney, Donna Jo Doney and Jim Doney. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Doney, her son Russell Doney, and her grandson Matthew Doney. In lieu of flowers, the Doney Clan requests that you make a donation in Wilma's name to the at alz.org or plant some roses. A celebration of her life will be held on January 30, 2017 at 10AM at Allnutt Funeral Home 650 W Drake Rd., Fort Collins, CO. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.allnutt.com
