William A. Szymanski 1920 - 2014 William A. Szymanski, 94, of Kenosha, died on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at St. Joseph's Home and Rehab Center. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was born on May 29, 1920, and was the son of the late Peter and Helen (Szarbajka) Szymanski. Bill honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines, from Dec. 9, 1941, until Feb. 1, 1946. He proudly achieved the rank of Platoon Sergeant and received numerous commendations, including the American Defense Medal, American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the WWII Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On Aug. 14, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Dorothy White in Michigan. Sadly after 51 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on March 5, 2000. For over 42 years, Bill was employed with AMC/Chrysler Corp., retiring in 1982 from their final repair department. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, P.L.A.V. James Smelcer Post #34, U.A.W. Local #72 Retirees and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Bill enjoyed spending time fishing and golfing. He is survived by his three daughters, Catherine A. (Frank) Gabron, Gail (Albert) Aiello and Judy (Rick) Bruns; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete and Frank Szymanski A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2224 30th Avenue. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at church for the Mass. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery. A visitation for Bill will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at St. Joseph's Home for the extraordinary care given to Bill.
