William J. McDevittof Tewksbury, Army Vet; 87 TEWKSBURY -- Mr. William J. McDevitt, 87, passed away Saturday November 12th at Tufts Medical Center, Boston.Bill was born on November 5, 1929 in Woburn, Massachusetts a son of the late William and Mary Ellen (Hurld) McDevitt.Bill spent the early part of his life in Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School as President of the Class of 1947. He served his country in the Army during the
Korean Conflict was honorably discharged as a sergeant.He returned home and began his work career at Peterson's Greenhouse in Lexington and later he had an Arnold Bread Distribution route for many years up until his retirement.Bill was very active at the Tewksbury Senior Center and was a parishioner of St William's Church in Tewksbury. He was an avid gardener, loved golf, wood carving fishing, softball, and wine making. He was a devoted and loving father to his children and will be deeply missed.Bill is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Hunt) McDevitt with whom he just celebrated their sixty third anniversary in September of this year; six daughters, Jeanne Campbell and her husband Ed, Joni Fleury and her husband Paul, Maureen Cefalo and her husband Richard, Mary Ann Stairs, Catherine McDevitt and her companion Mark Letourneau, Colleen Hillson and her companion Michael Thomas; two sons, William McDevitt and his wife Janet, and Robert McDevitt; also he leaves a sister, Dorothy Dixon; ten grandchildren, Joseph Campbell and his wife Amy, Bryanne Campbell, Mike Campbell, Christine Sclafani and her husband Josh, Lynden Fleury, David Fleury and his wife Natalie, Mia Cefalo, Allison Stairs, Ash Hillson, Steven Hillson; also four great- grandchildren, Blake Campbell, Sofia Sclafani, Ari Sclafani, and Levi Fleury.Bill was predeceased by his son-in-law, Tony Stairs and his brother-in-law, Frank Dixon.MCDEVITT -- His funeral will be on Wednesday November 16th with a Funeral Mass at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38), Tewksbury at 11:00am. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery.
