William Darwin "Bill" DicksSOUTH ZANESVILLE: William Darwin "Bill" Dicks, 72, of South Zanesville, died at 2:05 a.m. Mon. Dec. 31, 2012 at Genesis Hospice - Morrison House. He was born on Nov. 9, 1940 in Zanesville a son of the late John J. and Marguerite (Withers) Dicks. He retired in 2002 after 25 years driving truck for U.S. Mail Contractor Robert Neff of Hebron. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1958. He was a 33 year member of South Zanesville United Methodist Church, member of Newark Area Emmaus Community Walk #5, Chapel Class Sunday School, taught Bible lessons at Muskingum County work-release program, member of Epiphany Prison Ministry of Ohio, delivered meals for Christ Table, enjoyed his Saturday morning Christian Men's Share Group and was a Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator for 10 years collecting over 135 gallons of blood and received the Dan Hartman Award for his efforts.He is survived by his wife Glenda (Derwacter) Dicks of the home whom he married April 29, 1979; five sons William Jr., Jeff, Stephen, David, and Bryan; four grandsons Dan, Ryan, Chris, and Bradley; four great-grandchildren; one brother John (Mary Ann) Dicks, Jr; brother-in-law John Derwacter.; brothers-in-Christ Jerry Sutton and Mike Watt; and his much loved dogs Peppy and Nicky.He was preceded in death by parents; his first wife and mother of his children Barbara (Schrack) Dicks; one son Richie; six sisters Mildred Willis, Pearl Drake, Mary-Jo McClellan, Nadine Dicks, Nancy Lee Gernak, and Saundra Stemm. Brother-in-law Charles Derwacter; uncle Ted Withers; best friend for 50 years Charlie Marple.Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wed. Jan. 2, 2013 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thur. Jan. 3, 2013 at South Zanesville United Methodist Church. Rev. Joy French officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park.
