William C. Peffley, Jr. “Bill”, of Norristown, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old. Bill was born on April 30, 1929 to the late William C. Peffley, Sr. and Anna M. Peffley (nee Borr) in Reading, PA. He was a 1947 graduate from Central Catholic High School in Reading, PA and was the owner of The Catholic Shop of Norristown since 1958. He was a member of the Legion of Mary since 1955 and served as President of the Philadelphia Senatus of the Legion of Mary for several terms as well as being the editor of their magazine, Maria Legionis, for 30 years. Bill recorded four albums of religious music entitled “Mary Songs”, was the author of the Legion of Mary songbook, as well as a book of poetry on the Rosary. He was also a personal friend to Frank Duff, the Founder of the Legion of Mary. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary M. Peffley, (nee Phelps), as well as his three children; Edel Lukens (Steve), Rev. Francis J. Peffley, and Natia Meehan (Greg). Bill also was the “Poppy” to his seven grandchildren, Clare, Christopher, Johnny, Sarah, Megan, Erin and Grace, of whom he was very proud. Relatives and friends are invited to Bill’s Life Celebration from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 W. Germantown Pike, East Norriton PA, 19401on Friday, February 3, 2017 followed by the recitation of the Legion Prayers and Rosary at 8:00 p.m. There will be a second Rosary recited on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St. Norristown Pa, 19401 at 12:30 p.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill name may be made to ‘Maria Legionis Supplies’ in care of Legion of Mary at 5109 N. Broad St. Phila. PA 19141.
