William Arthur "Bill" PhillipsZANESVILLE: William Arthur "Bill" Phillips, 80, of Zanesville, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care.He was born on January 13, 1933, in Gallipolis, Ohio, a son of the late George Arthur and Elizabeth Mary Thomas Phillips. Even though Bill was born in Gallipolis, he was raised in Ironton, Ohio. Bill graduated from Ironton High School Class of 1951, attended Ohio Wesleyan from 1951-1953, Ohio University from 1955-1957 where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Executive Development School in Georgia from 1962-1963, and the S/L Graduate School in Indiana from 1966-1969. Bill had worked for First Federal of Ironton from 1957-1964, Park National Corporation as Director from 1990-2011, and Century National Bank from 1964-Present. While employed at Century National Bank, Bill held the position of Vice President in 1966, Executive Vice President - Director in 1971, President in 1974, Chairman of the Board from 1986-2011, and Chairman of the Executive Committee from 2011-Present. Bill was a member of the Euclid Avenue Methodist Church, United Way from 1970-Present where he was elected Campaign Chairman in 1970, President in 1971, Chair-Zane Grey Society from 1989-2010, and to the Board from 1989-1995, Kiwanis from 1968-1975, Rotary from 1982-2003 where he was elected to the Board from 1994-1995, Good Samaritan Medical Center Director from 1969-1972, Y-City Baseball President from 1973-1975, Zanesville Country Club where he was elected Director from 1974-1977 and President in 1977, District #10 S/L President in 1977, Bethesda Care System where he was elected Trustee from 1977-2002, Care One Director from 1984-2002, Treasurer from 1988-1993, Vice Chair from 1994-1997, and Chair from 1997-1999, Care Life where he was elected Director from 1986-2002, Care One Enterprises from 1986-2002, and Buckeye Home Health from 1988-1997, Genesis Board of Trustees where he was elected Vice Chair from 1997-1999, Chair from 2000-2002, and Member from 1997-2012, Quality Care Partners (QCP), Board Member (Medical Community and Health Care Organization) from 2008-Present, Community Health Alliance (CHA) from 1990-1997, Ohio University Zanesville Trustee from 1971-1978, Economic Development Committee in 1984, Chamber of Commerce where he was elected Treasurer in 1985, President in 1986, and Executive Committee in 1987, Muskingum County Convention Facilities Authority from 1989-1992, Muskingum County Community Foundation from 1991-Present where he was elected Treasurer from 1996-1998, President from 1998-2000, and Trustee Emeritus from 2000-Present, The Abbot Home for Men, Past Board Member and Past President from 1980-1993, Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges from 1995-1997, Muskingum County Center for Seniors Board from 2002-2005, Yule Time Chair, Muskingum Respiratory Care Association in 2003, and Zanesville Seniors' Classic President from 1992-2011. Bill received many awards throughout his career which include: the United Way Alexis deTocqueville Award received in 1992, Good Samaritan Medical Center Bob & Delores Hope Award received in 1993, United Way Littick Award received in 1999, Boy Scouts Commitment to Excellence Award received in 2000, Zanesville District Golf Association Hall of Fame received in 2002, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sister Ritarose Stahl Award received in 2003, United Way President's Award received in 2005, United Way Special Donor Recognition Award received in 2008, Cole & Thomas Lifetime Achievement Award received in 2010, and the Tribute to Fatherhood Award received in 2013.Bill served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the United States Army from 1953-1955.Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Sharon Downey Phillips, whom he married December 16, 1956, of the home; two sons, Dale A. Phillips and Kenneth Brian Phillips, both of Zanesville; two grandchildren, Aaron and Haleigh Phillips; and two brothers, Robert W. Phillips of South Carolina and Thomas Daniel Phillips of Ironton, OH.Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Tom England officiating.
