Wilfred Gardner BrockKnoxville, TNW. Gardner Brock, age 79, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, October 3, 2017. He was born on September 29, 1938, in Ellisville, Mississippi. He graduated from Clinton High School in Jackson, Mississippi, and Millsaps College, where he majored in math. Shortly after, he moved to Knoxville to begin an insurance career which lasted more than 50 years until his retirement in 2010. He was a certified CPCU agent for J.E. Lutz & Co. in downtown Knoxville, where he eventually became the owner and President in 1994. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Bearden for over 50 years where he has been honored as a Deacon for Life. Gardner was an avid runner and took great pride in his career and family. Gardner was preceded in death by his parents, John Royce Brock and Wilma Kathlyn Gardner Brock, and his brother John Royce "Johnny" Brock, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Catherine Keeton Brock; his daughters Lisha Brock Venable (Frank), Rachel Claire Brock; son John Gardner Brock (Stacey); grandchildren Blake Ryan Venable, Nathan Hunter Venable, John Andrew "Andy" Brock, Sarah Catherine Venable, Claire Elizabeth Brock, John William "JW" Bullman, and Audrey Rose Augustine; sisters Kathlyn Brock Busby (H.T.), Bethany Brock Riggs (Frank), and Laurie Brock Beezley; and many nieces and nephews. The family will welcome friends at Central Baptist Church in Bearden from 5-7pm Thursday, October 5, 2017, to be followed by a Celebration of Life service at 7pm with Dr. Larry Fields officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10am Friday at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
