Wendy Monet Schilke (nee McFadyen) passed away after a long battle with cancer on the evening of Friday, March 10, 2017 surrounded by her family and close friends. Wendy was born on June 10, 1947 in Shoal Lake, Manitoba and grew up in Winnipeg. Wendy met her husband Ron in Toronto and moved to the Kaministiqua Valley outside Thunder Bay in 1973. Though she often talked of the openness and expansive sky of the prairies, she was a passionate advocate of the many beauties of The Lakehead. Wendy was involved with many children's groups in the city. She was a founding member of the Kaministiqua play group, played a big role in the advancement of Waldorf education, and spent many years with Eleanor Drury Children's Theatre. Wendy was an avid reader, an ardent fan of the Beatles whom she saw twice in concert, and loved the music of Leonard Cohen, but her abiding passion was her family and friends. Wendy radiated a warmth and kindness that drew young and old into her circle, where they were greeted with genuine delight at having them in her life. Left to honour Wendy and remember her love is her husband Ron of 48 years, her children, Jarret (Alexis) and Stacey, her brothers, Brad (Chantal), Don (Nancy), her sister, Terry (Guy), and their families. And of course, her many longtime and loving friends. The family is especially grateful to the exceptional staff at the Regional Cancer Centre at TBRHSC, and to the nurses and palliative care doctors on 1A. A celebration of Wendy's life will be held on Friday, March 24th at 1:00pm at Current River Recreation Centre. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Regional Food Distribution Association at 570 South Syndicate Ave.
