Wanda Lou ChenowethEast LansingWanda Lou Chenoweth passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017.  She was born on April 13, 1934, to Jesse and Hattie Chenoweth in Salt Lake City, Utah, at Holy Cross Hospital where she spent her childhood and graduated from high school.  She received her B.S. degree from University of Utah in 1956 (Dietetics), M.S. degree from University of Iowa in 1959 (Nutrition), and Ph.D. degree (Nutrition) in 1972.  She began her research and teaching career at Michigan State University (MSU) in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition in 1972, teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition-related courses, in conjunction with conducting research and retired from MSU in 2001. Her accomplishments have been recognized through numerous national awards including the Dietetic Educator Award from the Academy of Nutrition Dietetics. She has accomplished a big legacy is her signature scholarship contribution for financially needy dietetics students who are accepted into a dietetic internship. She has remained in contact with many former students and staff. She provided loving care to her elderly mother for several years, while maintaining a busy schedule of research and teaching, and sometimes overseas travel.  She gave generously of her time and talents in many different ways, including as a Sparrow Hospital volunteer, area food bank volunteer, and provided harp ministry to residents at area nursing homes.  She was an elder at First Presbyterian Church where she was a long-term member and an editor of the newsletter. She was a warm and generous friend, colleague, teacher and mentor, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.She had one brother, Leo (Cleo), who survives her in death.  She is also survived by her nephew Mark (Jill) and her great-niece Ariel.  She is also survived by many dear friends.  Her parents preceded her in death, as did her niece Michelle (Dennis).A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing located at 510 West Ottawa. Her family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Chenoweth Endowed Scholarship in Dietetics in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at MSU. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
