It's so hard to say goodbye to someone you love. Walter was seventy-six years old when the Lord called him home on April 1,2016. He was a loving son, father and friend. Walter was born to Eugene Smith and Viola Smith in Richmond, Virginia.
He was predeceased by his favorite cousin Alvin Wilson and partner of many yeas Christine James in which they conceived two children. He is survived by his ex-wife Shirley Atkins and children: Lina Smith, Geneva Smith, Shelly Smith Dickerson, Dekey Smith, Ronnie Smith, Deneen James, Jacob Smith and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gloria Ann Pittman, his one and only sister in which he is also survived by, was his best friend - they were very close. Walter has a lifetime of friends to whom he was like a brother. He was a strong man who believed hard work pays off. He taught his children that standing on your own two feet will be beneficial in the long run. He was there for all those who needed him as much as possible. Walter loved and cared for many people and he received the same from them also. He loved to dress in his suits with the matching hat's and shoes. He stayed "Sharp".
He remained strong to all in light of his on-going pain that he was enduring. He no doubt stayed strong to the very end. He would want everyone to remember the great times, laughter and conversations he shared. Walter will be greatly missed and continuously loved by all his family, friends and whoever was blessed by his presence.
