Walter Becker Obituary

Oct 09, 1947 - Nov 13, 2015

This obituary is administered by:

Walter “Wally” was born Oct. 9, 1947, in Redmond, Oregon.   Long-time resident of Novato and Rohnert Park, CA.  He passed away at home November 13, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Sara Virginia and Fred John Becker. Wally appreciated a stable and loving influence from his step dad David Campbell, and he often mentioned that Dave may have saved him from taking a wrong path in life.

“Wally” graduated from Novato High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea.  He also attended college before and after serving in the Army at both College of Marin and Indian Valley College.Upon his return from his military service, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Pearson July 4, 1970. Shortly following the nuptials, he joined the U.F.C.W. Local 5 as a meat cutter where he worked for 43 years.  He and Linda moved to Rohnert Park in 1977 where they raised their three sons: Jeromy, Nathan, and Jeffrey. Wally was an avid sports fan and a die-hard S.F. 49ers, S.F. Giants and Golden State Warriors fan.    He coached youth baseball and football and was voted Coach of the Week for Sonoma County in 1994. He also was a life-long Elvis fan.  He was known for his quick wit and sometimes droll humor.  He may have been best known for his generous and loving heart.  His hobbies included golf, family, music and reading.  Wally also, spent many years loving and playing adult league slow pitch softball, as pitcher. He also cherished the time spent working out and weight lifting with his brother in law Bruce Pearson, and had many stories to tell about those days.

All of which he enjoyed, but he enjoyed the time with his grandchildren most. His heart lied with watching Ian (16), Taylor (15), Kelly (12) and Trenton (10) grow up.  He retired in October 2009 but was not often too far from work.  He remained active and worked several days as he found joy in working.  He was an active member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Petaluma, where he also loved his Band of Brothers life group. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda, sons Jeromy (Kristina), Nathan (Ashley), Jeffrey (Tiffany), and his four grandchildren.  His 8 siblings, Fred Becker II, Vance/Ben (Julie) Becker, Helen Steppler, Denise Fazio, James (Linda) Becker, Grant (Peggy) Campbell, Carole Campbell, Candy (Marc) Weisstein and numerous loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
