VAN DER LINDE
WILLEM BERTUS Willem passed away on Feb. 4, 2017 after battling Alzheimer's Dementia. Willem was the last surviving son of Grietje Vromans and Bertus Willem van der Linde.Willem was born on April 17, 1931, in Batavia, Java, Indonesia when it was a Dutch colony before the Second World War. He survived the Japanese concentration camps along with his mother and brothers, Kees and Daan. After the war, Wim returned to the Netherlands where he met his wife, Pit, in high school. He went on to get a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam. He was on a winning crew team in of the Nereus Boat Club in Amsterdam. He rowed with the University Barge Club on the Schuylkill and was a past president of the club. He also ran marathons, biked with his son Rich, camped and skied. He worked as an automotive finishes chemist for Marshall Labs of Dupont in Philadelphia for over 30 years.He leaves behind his wife of nearly 60 years, Marit "Pit" (Melchior) van der Linde; his daughter and her husband, Tanja van der Linde, MD and Jeffrey Eitreim of Hopkinton NH; daughter and her husband Renee and Ward Kromholz of Virginia Beach VA; and son and his wife, Richard and Janelle van der Linde of Redwood City CA. He loved his grandchildren Carter, Laird, Kase, Morgan, and Sawyer.A Memorial Service will be held on April 30, at 10 A.M., at the University Barge Club, Boathouse Row, Philadelphia PA. Those who wish can make donations in Willem's name to The 1871 Foundation of the University Barge Club, 7&8 Boat-house Row, Phila. PA 19130.
