Vivian Loretta ParkerRedding, CA1926 - 2017Vivian Loretta Parker passed away on February 15, 2017 at the age of 91. She was known as Viv, mom, grandma, grams, great grandma, or G-G to many of the family and friends who will deeply miss her. As a Native Daughter of the Golden West, her life has been inextricably tied to this area and Shasta Lake.She was born on January 8, 1926 in Fresno, CA to Helen and Odis McDowell, but grew up in Old Shasta with her two brothers. As a teenager, Vivian helped her mom cook at the "Bachelor's Club" for Shasta Dam workers. She then married Lynn Parker on June 20, 1942 and started a family in Toyon. After spending some time in North Dakota, they settled in the Redding area. Vivian worked for the State of California Employment Department and was an active member in The Shriners with her husband. She was a kind, loving mother who was an excellent cook and enjoyed to travel and shop.Vivian is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Schneider of Redding, CA and Susan Hughes of Beaverton, OR; three granddaughters, Katie Garrett, Jennifer Bren and Amy Umphlett; and four great-grandsons, Nathan and Trevor Garrett, and Andrew and David Bren. She joins her husband, daughters Barbara Robertson and Donna Mahaffey, and her beloved dogs Sassy and Maggie.Please join Vivian's family in celebrating her extraordinary life at C.R.
