Lester, Virginia O. 92, of Wichita, KS, crossed over the threshold from earthly life to the life beyond on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, in Wichita. Virginia was born on November 18, 1923 in Garden City, KS, the daughter of John and Grace (Burrill) Ortman. Virginia and Robert Lester were united in marriage on April 17, 1959. Together they celebrated 25 years of marriage before his passing on August 24, 1984. Virginia graduated from Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo, MI with a major in Occupational Therapy. She practiced at a private mental hospital in Detroit, MI and at the Institute of Logapedics in Wichita and spent 32 years as a Doctor's Office Medical Assistant, retiring in 1983. Virginia was a volunteer at Botanica Gardens in Wichita and was a longtime member of Faith United Church of Christ in Wichita and sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Helen Zerull. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Bob (Gwenn) Zerull of, WI; and from MN, Mary (Al) Treynham, John (Beata) Zerull, Susan (Mike) Steel, Jim (Bonnie Laverdure) Zerull, Tom (Carol) Zerull and Bill (Heather) Zerull. Virginia was grateful for the friendship and care giving of Joyce Jones and Mary Elise Earley, both of Wichita. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 1600 W. 27th St. N., Wichita. Inurnment was held at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita. Memorials can be made to the Botanica Gardens.
