Neja, Sister VirginiaSister Virginia Neja, age 88, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.The former Virginia Mary Neja was born on June 13, 1928 in Marinette, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Paul and Margaret (Schneider) Neja. She entered the Convent in 1944 and professed her vows in 1946. Sister Virginia earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Silver Lake College of the Holy Family, Manitowoc, Wisconsin and a Masters of Arts Degree from Millersville State, Millersville, Pennsylvania. Sister Virginia taught elementary school at St. Mary, Rhinelander, St. Joseph, Rice Lake, St. Mary, Reedsville, St. John, Seymour, St. Patrick, Maple Grove, all of Wisconsin; Sacred Heart, Ayrshire, IA; and St. Sylvester, Woodsfield, Ohio. Sister Virginia also taught high school at Catholic Memorial, Waukesha, Wisconsin; St. Mary, West Point, Nebraska; St. Willibrords, Chicago, Illinois; and Bishop Rosecrans, Zanesville, Ohio, as well as Spanish at Silver Lake College of the Holy Family. She also provided community service at St. Paul Manor, Kaukauna; St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin and St. Mary, West Point, Nebraska. She had been a member of St. Rita Health Center since December 2009.Survivors include the Francis Sisters of Christian Charity; one brother and three sisters-in-law: Paul (Mary) Neja, Mary Jean Neja and Rose Neja; two brothers-in-law: Robert Patrick and Patrick Archambault. Nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Margaret (Schneider) Neja; four brothers: Anthony, John, Michael and Patrick; two sisters: Faith Patrick and Rosemary Archambault.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Finian Zaucha, O.F.M. with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Friends may also call Wednesday morning at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
