Mrs. Virginia Aleese "Mom" Cummings of West Jefferson died on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Cummings was born on Jan. 25, 1930 in Green Cove, Va., to James William and Ora Blevins Necessary.

Mrs. Cummings was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; three brothers; and grandson, Alex Graham.

Mrs. Cummings was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. She enjoyed gospel music and loved being around people. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

Mrs. Cummings is survived by her husband, James Junior Cummings; daughter, Kathy Ann Pratt of Castlewood, Va.; daughter, Melissa Diahann Stike and husband David of Warrensville; son, Rex William Cummings and fiancee Sherrie of Crumpler; son, Jeffery Eugene Cummings and wife Jennifer of Fleetwood; daughter, Dedra Cummings Day and husband Jeff of West Jefferson; son, John Franklin Cummings of Crumpler; sister, Pat Marple of Independence, Va.; brother, Ken Necessary of Mountain City, Tenn.; sister, Myrtle Revercomb of Stanton, Va.; brother, James Necessary of Green Cove, Va.; sister, Shelby Kondas of Hillsville, Va.; 15 grandchildren several great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Welcome Home Baptist Church by Rev. Lonnie Jones and Rev. Dennis Blevins. The family will receive friends following the service.
