Virginia BusezkyKapsa GrilloNov. 22, 1925 - Oct. 25, 2016GRANGER - Virginia Busezky Kapsa Grillo, 90, of Granger, Indiana, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at 9:04 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016, in The Hearth at Juday Creek where she lived for the last six years. A special thank you to the compassionate staff of the Hearth, especially for the last two years that were spent in their Keepsake Village Memory Care. Also Harbor Light Hospice that helped the last two weeks of her life. Virginia was born on November 22, 1925, in South Bend, to Steven and Elizabeth (Dukai) Busezky, and was a lifelong resident. She attended St. Stephen's Catholic Grade School. She was a 1942 graduate of South Bend Catholic High School and in 1946, she graduated with honors from The Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. On June 21, 1947, she married Leonard B. Kapsa, who preceded her in death in 1981. On July 28, 1984, she married Dr. Donald Grillo, M.D., who preceded her in death on March 14, 1998. Virginia was also preceded in death by her sister, Joann “Judy” Busezky Podell, and her brother-in-law, Norman Podell. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Judith Kapsa Lawrence of Crown Point, IN, and Dianne (Richard) Kapsa Horvath of Granger, IN; six grandchildren: Richard P. Horvath of South Bend, IN, Heather (Seth) Gilbert of Valparaiso, IN, Julia (Grant) Miller of Indianapolis, IN, Elizabeth (Erik) Pitner of Indianapolis, IN, Christopher (Lindsey) Silverman of Wilmette, IL, and Leonard ( Crystal) Lawrence of Lowell, IN. Virginia was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren. When any one of them would visit her, she might not remember their names but they always brought a twinkle to her eyes and a beautiful smile to her face. In 1947, while Leonard worked on his degree, Virginia was employed by the Indiana University Health Clinic in Bloomington, IN. When they moved back to South Bend in 1951, she worked for two years in the office of Dr. Firestein, then in 1953, she was employed as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital. She especially loved working in the maternity ward and loved to visit the nursery and rock any child who was crying or in distress. From 1956 until retiring in 1978, she worked for Dr. Donald Grillo. When she was younger, Virginia loved to spend time fishing and “sunbathing” at her grandfather's cottage on Indian Lake. She enjoyed ice skating, dancing, cooking, having tea parties, good red wine and she loved fresh flowers. She loved her children, adored her grandchildren, and was a wonderful and compassionate nurse. She was always well-dressed, and loved the latest fashion magazines, but her passion always revolved around the latest medical news. She was always interested in any new discoveries, read all the latest medical journals, and hoped a cure for cancer and Alzheimer's Disease would be developed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, IN. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
