Violet Joan NicholasJan. 07, 1930 - Jan. 25, 2017Camarillo, CAViolet Joan Nicholas (Crawford) was born on January 7, 1930, in Peoria, Illinois, to John Edward and Hildur Crawford. She passed away on January 25, 2017, in Camarillo, California, surrounded by her family at the age of 87.Joan's family moved to Inglewood, California in the late 1930's and established their home there. After growing up together from ages seven and nine, Joan married her childhood sweetheart Richard Marvin Nicholas on June 22, 1949. Daughters Karen and Debbie were born in Inglewood in 1951 and 1954. Shortly after Debbie's birth the couple moved to Sacramento. Daughter Lisa was born in Sacramento in March of 1963. Joan managed the books and payroll while her husband Richard worked as a licensed general contractor building custom homes in Los Angeles and Sacramento until his retirement in 1992. Richard and Joan made their family home in Sacramento until 2004 when they moved to Oxnard Shores. Richard passed away on May 15, 2013. In March of 2015, Joan moved to a wonderful residential care facility in Camarillo, California.During their retirement years, Richard and Joan enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their fifth-wheel. Joan was a dedicated and devoted wife and mother, and is survived her three daughters and their spouses, Karen Witherill (Chip) of Northridge and Oxnard Shores, Debbie Sheklian (Myron) of Visalia, and Lisa Mason (Matt) of Sacramento; and sister, Carol Neeley of Oxnard Shores. Joan is also survived by six grandchildren: Kelly Crets (Heather), Georgiana Nahmias-Witherill (Marvin), Liston "Stacy" Witherill IV (Kristiana), Christopher Sheklian, Melissa Sheklian (Sy Sivaraman), Amber Mason; and four great-grandchildren, Diane and Sydney Crets, and John and Joshua Nahmias. Joan was respected and loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed by all of her family and friends.
