This obituary is administered by:
Viola Mae 'Milo' PearmineDecember 25, 1923 - July 20, 2017SALEM - Viola Mae 'Milo' Pearmine, 93, passed away on July 20, 2017, in Salem, OR. A celebration of life will be held from 1pm-4pm on September 24, 2017 at the Willamette Heritage Center, Mission Mill Museum, 1313 Mill St. SE, in Salem located in the Dye House. All are invited who knew Viola, and would like to share in celebrating with her family; a life full of creative energy and enthusiasm.Viola, daughter of Ernest and Eunice Coonradt, was born on December 25, 1923 in San Jose, CA. She attended San Jose State University before transferring after the start of World War II to Oregon State University where she met the love of her life, Les Pearmine. After she graduated from OSU with a degree in mathematics, she returned to work in San Francisco. Les returned from the War, and they married in 1946, and moved to Oregon where she lived for the next 63 years on Pearmine Farms, before moving to the Capital Manor in West Salem.Early in life, Viola was nicknamed "Milo", the name by which she has been known throughout her life. She always put her family first. When her children were nearly grown, and mostly out of the nest, she launched with a passion into creating and serving the community through her artistic talents and leadership skills. An inveterate knitter her entire life; her love of handmade creations was woven into her Pi Beta Phi sorority's philanthropic support of the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN through the Willamette University Chapter. Many of Milo's children and grandchildren still have examples of the beautiful woven Pi Phi placemats, tablecloths and handbags created by the artisans in the Appalachian Mountains. A long-time member of the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer, Milo served as chair. She served on the board of directors of the Mission Mill Museum Association from 1986 through 1991, serving as President from 1990 to 1991.Milo's love of weaving, fiber arts, and travel lead her to hike Machu Picchu on an Andean weavers' trek when she was in her 70s; visit weavers on the Scottish Isle of Skye; and travel to the Pribilof Islands in Alaska's Bearing Sea. Antarctica is the only continent she and Les did not drive, fly, rail or boat to and across, on their many trips throughout the world.Milo is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Pearmine; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Jan Baisch; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Patricia Pearmine; and daughter and son-in-law Christy and Doyle Miller. She will be remembered by her 10 grandchildren as the grand dame of sticky rolls; and the Cookie Grandma to 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband of 59 years, Les, preceded her in death.Milo had requested that any gifts be directed to the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer, or to the Willamette Heritage Center/Mission Mill Museum, organizations to which she donated her time, resources, and endless talents to promote their missions. Arrangements by City View Funeral Home.
