Vernon O'Neal SquiresSWEETWATER, TXVernon O'Neal Squires went to his heavenly home on July 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Services will be 2:00PM Monday, July 24, 2017 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Scott Burns and Reverend Keith Clower officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Sunday. Neal Squires was born on July 13, 1929 in Placid, TX to John William and Unabell Squires. He was the seventh of 14 children having 5 brothers and 8 sisters. He attended school in Placid until going to work as a sharecropper and ranch foreman to help support his family. Upon moving to Sweetwater, TX, Neal met Marjorie Taylor and they were married on November 24, 1951. In 1952, Neal was drafted into the armed forces, but enlisted into the Marine Corp. Upon discharge Neal returned to Sweetwater, TX and worked there over the years for USG, Flintkote, Lone Star Cement, and J.C and Stanley Morris. In 1982, Neal and Marjorie moved to Big Spring, TX where he eventually retired as a government trapper. In 2007 Neal and Marjorie returned to Sweetwater, TX where he lived a long life of ranching, fishing, and enjoying many family visits, especially from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Neal was active in church life over many years, recently ordained as a deacon of Highland Baptist Church. Neal is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of 65 years; son Lynn Squires and wife Melody of Sweetwater; daughter Donna Bennett and husband Jerry of Big Spring; daughter Sandra Burns and husband Scott of Indio, CA; son Robert Squires and wife Lisa of Weatherford; 10 grandchildren: C.J. Ashley, Jenny Doggett, Robert Squires, Skyler Ashley, Scarlet Rodriguez, Jason Burns, Jack Squires, Ashton Offerdahl, Nathan Burns, and David Squires; 16 great grandchildren: Jaden, Jensen, and Julia Doggett, Luke and Ella Ashley; Riley and Ava Squires; Gianna and Deacon Burns, Abigale and Colton Ashley, Zoe and Lincoln Rodriguez, Braden and Elayna Squires, Ryleigh Offerdahl and one brother, Winford Squires and wife Doris of Carrolton. Neal was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings. Pallbearers will be Jason Burns, Nathan Burns, Skyler Ashley, C.J. Ashley, Robert Squires, David Squires, Jack Squires and Darrell Doggett.
