Vernon Andrew Mayfield1922-2016Vernon Andrew Mayfield, 93, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on September 5, 2016. He was born on December 14, 1922 in Gary, TX to Earl & Madie Mayfield. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa & Italy. After the war, he met & married his sweetheart of 50 years, Helen Hutchinson Mayfield. Vernon worked for the Houston Fire Dept. & Powell Electric. He dearly loved his family & centered his world around them. He rode on the Salt Grass Trail Ride for fifty years. Vernon is survived by his daughter Donna Skelton & husband Sam, granddaughter Jill McLain & husband David, granddaughter Katie Skelton, great-grandsons Marshall & Nolan McLain, and his second wife Virginia Mayfield. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen Mayfield, his siblings Millard & Mike Mayfield & Tommie Robbins, and his granddaughter Susan Skelton. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 from 6 - 8 pm. Services will be on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 2 pm. Both at Forest Park Lawndale. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
