Verna Lou Hisey passed away on November 14, 2016, with family around her. She was born on April 26, 1921, in Three Lakes, Washington to Vernal and Henrietta Sebring, moved to the Lake Stevens, WA area at an early age, and lived there for most of her life. Verna graduated from Washington State College and joined the Army as a Physical Therapist during World War II. Following the war she continued her work in PT at Soap Lake, Washington. She married Robert R. Hisey on May 28, 1948, and returned to Lake Stevens. Verna was a tomboy, and participated in many different sports. Her favorites were softball and horseshoes, and she pitched until she was in her late 80's. Verna loved exploring the Cascade Mountains and backpacked extensively with her family. She took up climbing some of the major peaks of the Cascades at age 50. She was a member of South Lake Stevens Grange for 82 years and she was a leader for both Cub Scouts and Campfire Girls. As a Master Gardener, she always grew extra produce to share with friends and neighbors. Verna was an avid traveler, and visited all seven continents. Robert and Verna raised four children: Joe (Angela) Hisey, Jan (Jim) Whalen, Sally (Bob) Gaebler, and John (Lauren) Hisey. They had 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She had many other beloved relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Evergreen Funeral Home, reception to follow.
