Verna Alice Everson KernanVentura County, CA Verna Alice Everson Kernan, 91, of Ventura County, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017, in Modesto, California. She was born on September 26, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio to Charles Jacob Barker and Elma Bell (Kuehner) Barker. Verna moved to Ventura County in 1948. She lived in Santa Barbara, Oak View, Ventura, and Oakdale. She married Peter Dale Everson on May 7, 1944 in Santa Barbara. Peter passed away in 1968. Verna met Eugene C. Kernan and they married on March 24, 1972, in Santa Barbara. Eugene died in 2002. Verna was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in the Ventura Stake, and enjoyed serving in callings over the years. She spent most of her years in Ventura County and was active in many organizations. She loved to bowl, mostly at the Wagon Wheel Bowl. As secretary of bowling leagues, Verna enjoyed putting on parties for the league members. Her lifelong passion for roller skating had her in competitions in Ohio during her teens. Verna picked it back up in her later years and competed into her 70's. Verna served as secretary for the Ventura County Saddle Club and passed on her love of horses to all of her children. She enjoyed taking her grandkids to the Ventura Pier and Ventura Harbor which always included a stop at the Coastal Cone for ice cream. Other hobbies included singing, playing the piano and organ, playing video games with her grandkids, golf, gardening, crafts, and racquetball. Verna's life was all about friends and family. She was always ready to help anyone in need. Until the end, she loved those around her and gave kisses and smiles with enthusiasm. Anyone who met her couldn't help but to love her, too. She is survived by her children, Larry Everson (wife Helen) of Alaska; Dale Everson's wife Julie of Georgia; and Melodie Everson, of California; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dale Everson in 2016. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 9:00 am until 10:45 am, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, in Ventura. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Verna will be laid to rest following the service at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, in Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to
