Tomasz Golab94, died November 17, 2016. Tomasz was born on October 18, 1922 in Dynow, Poland, son of Gregory Golab and Franciska Golab. His high school education was interrupted with the Russian and German invasions of Poland. He served in the Polish underground from 1940-1953 fighting for Polish freedom. After the war, he earned a PhD in Chemistry from Basel University in Switzerland under the Nobel Laureate, Thaddeus Reichstein, and immigrated to the United States with his wife of 60 years, Danuta Cwiklinska Golab. Tomasz and Danuta initially immigrated to Massachusetts in 1960 to assume research positions at the Worcester Foundation and Institute of Experimental Biology.They then moved to Indianapolis in 1962 where he served as Research Scientist for Eli Lilly and Company for 26 years.  During this time they co-founded the Polish Cultural Society of Indiana and participated annually in the International Festival where they passed along their passion for Polish traditions and artistry. Tomasz was decorated with the Cross of the Polish Home Army, the Cross for Freedom and Independence and with the Polish Veteran's Cross for the Battle for Independence.  Tomasz along with his wife are the founders of two bronze statue monuments dedicated to Pope John Paul II, one in the spiritual capital of Poland, Jasna Gora, Czestochowa and the other at their former parish church in Dynow, Poland. Tomasz and Danuta were granted Honorary Citizenship (2007) by their hometown of Dynow.  They were also awarded with the Distinguished Order of the Knightly Cross Medal (2008; 90th anniversary of Poland regaining its Independence) by the President of Poland "For outstanding contributions to the Independence of the Republic of Poland for Combatants actions" in recognition of their role in the Polish Underground in the fight for freedom from both the German and Soviet occupations of Poland.Tomasz leaves behind his son Adam and wife Michele Golab, daughter Teresa and husband Larry Heil, grandchildren Benjamin, Christopher, Nicholas, Matthew, Tomasz (Brandi), Martin, and Michaela.Calling will be at Feeney Hornak Shadeland Mortuary at 1307 N. Shadeland Avenue on November 22, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 7243 E. 10th Street on November 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.
