Timothy "Tim" CornfieldEast Lansing age 64, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. He was born on March 1, 1952 to Earl and Kathleen (Haynes) Cornfield in Muskegon, MI. Tim attended Whitehall High School and went on to pursue a Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling from Central Michigan University, graduating in 1979. He had a successful 32-year-career in public schools, eight of which were spent at Helper Junior High in Price, Utah, and 20 at Okemos Middle School in Okemos, MI. He also taught driver's education. His sense of humor and quick wit was one-of-a-kind. He dedicated himself to making life better for family, friends, and students. He was everything that is good in this world. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, children, family, and friends. His ideal day would be spent at the Emerald Golf Course with the people he loved. On July 21, 1984, he married his best friend Sheila Ackerberg and she survives him along with his two children, Kaylee (Bradley) Scott, Nicholas (Colleen) Cornfield; brothers,Thomas (Jacqueline) Cornfield and Arthur "John" (Jenny) Cornfield; mother-in-law Betty Ackerberg; sister-in-law Bonnie (Randall) Smith; brothers-in-law, Donald (Debi) Ackerberg and Richard (Kathy) Ackerberg; cousin, Lauralee (Terry) Kesteloot and several in England along with many other beloved nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law (Donald C. Ackerberg), and brother Douglas (Susan) Cornfield.A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Monday, November 21, at the Peoples Church in East Lansing, MI, with Reverend Andrew Pomerville officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service; luncheon to follow.
