Lutz, 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at home.He was born on April 14, 1929, in York, the son of the late Louis and Sarah (Wallace) Lutz.Thomas is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary (Sweger) Lutz; one daughter, Colleen (John) Hope; one son, Brad (Margaret) Lutz; three stepdaughters, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Kreider, Elizabeth (Charles) Jones, and Jacqueline (Kingston) Haring-Chow; one sister, Grace (Harold) Good; one niece, Stefani (Stephen) Bockmiller; one nephew, Brian (Donna) Good; and five grandchildren, Reilly, Quentin, Wade, Zoe, and Noah. Thomas was preceded in death by his infant brother, Eugene; and by his brother, Chester Lutz, in 2002.Thomas began his engineering career at William Penn Senior High School, attending school part-time and working part-time as a Metal Working Machinist Apprentice. After graduating in 1948, he served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Thomas later retired in 1988 from his position as a Senior Engineering Technician with the VSE Corporation after a 40-year career, including 34 years with the federal government at various federal facilities. He then drove charter tours for Rohrer Bus Line for 10 years, enjoying many wonderful trips with his wife, Mary, before retiring for the final time.Thomas was an avid reader and was very knowledgeable in the subjects of science, history, and geography. He had a great love for his family, travel, photography, and woodworking. He also loved fishing and made many trips to the Outer Banks, Assateague, Virginia, and the Chesapeake Bay area with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, V.F.W, Post #6771, and a past member of the York Conservation Society, serving on the board at Indian Steps Museum and Bird Conservatory. He was a past member of the Canadochly United Church of Christ, a Sunday School teacher for the youth group, and the leader of the Youth Fellowship group.Services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Barrens United Lutheran Church, 232 Kralltown Road, Dillsburg. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10. to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private following the service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.An online guestbook can be signed at www.cocklinfuneralhome.com
