Thomas H. Kelly1929 - 2014Thomas H. Kelly, 84, of Kenosha, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at United Hospital Systems KMCC. Tom was born on Dec. 6, 1929, in Rockford, Ill., to William and Olivia (Laning) Kelly. He was a 1947 graduate of West High School and 1949 graduate of Wayland Junior College. Tom served as an MP in the U.S. Army from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He began his insurance career as a salesman with Allstate in Rockford. Tom then moved to the Chicago area to begin his long career with CNA Insurance. He also owned and operated his own executive recruitment firm for 10 years until his retirement. In 1956 Tom was the youngest Alderman in Rockfords history at the age of 27. He married Anne Terrien on Feb. 24, 1990, in Mendota, Ill., and the couple lived in Chicago until moving to Kenosha three years ago. Tom was well known for his sense of humor and his brand of mischief, especially if you were on the receiving end of his practical jokes. He was a lifelong Bears fan, enjoyed classical music and movies, and studying World War II history. Tom was a big supporter of all emergency service providers but his greatest joy was his family. He was preceded in death by, his parents.Tom is survived by, his loving wife, Anne of Kenosha; his brother, Edward Laning-Kelly of Lake Isabella, Calif.; local family, Mary (Ken Sr.) Huissen and Cheryl (John Jr.) Gilmore; as well as his niece, nephews and friends.A memorial service for Tom will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home with military honors to follow the service. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
