Shima, Ted Tsuneo Ted Tsuneo Shima 33°, of Glendale, AZ, 82, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2012, in Scottsdale, AZ, surrounded by his entire family. He was born on March 30, 1930, in Delta, CO to George R. and Kiyoko Shima. Ted was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Shortly after graduating from Olathe High School in Olathe, CO, he served in the United States Air Force. He proudly served in Korea during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged after 8 years of active duty. After brief employment with the Navajo Tribal Police Department in Gallup, NM, and the AZ Highway Patrol in Kingman, AZ, he worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Department of Energy from which he retired with 30 years of service. He was an active member of Desert Cross Community Church (formerly Phoenix Japanese Free Methodist Church), and the AZ Chapter of the JACL. He became a Master Mason in May,1972, and was a charter member of Carey B. Wilson Lodge No. 67 F&AM. He was a member of Sahuaro Lodge No. 45 F&AM and Hiram Daylight Lodge No. 73 F&AM. He became a 32° Scottish Rite Mason in November, 1972, and became a 33° Inspector General Honorary in October, 1993. He served as Assistant Valley Secretary until his promotion to General Valley Secretary for the Phoenix Scottish Rite Bodies from 1997 until his passing. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Akiyo; daughters Suellen Shima Germinario, and Kathleen Shima Kulavik (Richard); granddaughters Francesca, Isabella, and Erika Germinario; brothers Dean and Harry; sister Jean; several nephews and nieces, and several grandnephews and grandnieces. Ted was welcomed into heaven by his parents, George R. Shima and Kiyoko Shima, brothers Kiichiro, Tomiyasu and Ben; sisters Toshiko Mii and Martha, and granddaughter Danika. Ted will be remembered as a servant of God, family, community, and country. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. A church memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11AM, at Desert Cross Community Church, 4143 N. 43rd Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85031; Masonic/Scottish Rite memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 3PM, at Sun City Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM, 18810 N. 107th Avenue, Sun City, AZ 85373. He will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetary of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Phoenix Scottish Rite Foundation Building Fund, c/o Phoenix Scottish Rite Bodies, 14001 N. 7th Street, Ste. F-111, Phoenix, AZ 85022-4382, or Desert Cross Community Church, 4143 N. 43rd Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85031.
