PRYOR, T. HUNTER, M.D. Hunter Pryor passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2016. He was born on April 15, 1928, in Lake Village, Arkansas, the eldest son of Helen and "Buck" Pryor. Growing up in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Dr. Pryor was a proud Eagle Scout and often talked about his Scoutmaster known as "Snake," who, in fact, introduced him to lots of snakes and contributed to his life long love of nature and animals. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Shap Pryor. Shap, who was a tad mischievous with a great sense of humor, often referred to his older brother, who appeared never to do anything wrong, as "JC". Dr. Pryor is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice Cresap Pryor, a sister, Isabel Hendrix, his three daughters, Beth (Ethan) Johnson, Melissa Pryor, and Sarah (Greg) Johnson, and his beloved grandchildren: Sarah, Austin, Whit, Hunter, Alex, Pryor and Jett. Dr. Pryor graduated from
Vanderbilt University where he was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and from the University of Tennessee medical school. He had a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and did his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital here in Miami. He was the third radiologist hired by Baptist Hospital. He served briefly in the Navy, but would readily confess that it was not exactly hazardous duty as he was stationed in San Diego with a lot of pretty nurses. As a young child, Dr. Pryor visited Miami with a relative and never forgot how enamored he was with this city. When he had the opportunity to work as a resident at Jackson, he leapt at it. Thanks to Frasuer Knight, he was introduced on a blind date to a Miami native, Janice Cresap. Dr. Pryor never forgot the small town where he grew up, and often expressed wonder and appreciation for the fact that he spent his adult life in Miami. Dr. Pryor had a true joie de vivre; he absolutely loved a party, travel, small children, and most importantly, his family. Those that knew him will remember him as a kind and caring physician. Dr. Pryor loved spending time in Key Largo and was an avid water skier well into his sixties. He was a passionate horticulturist and spent many volunteer hours at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees. He was appointed Trustee Emeritus in recognition of his service to the Garden. He was a past member of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. He was also a long time member of Plymouth Congregational Church. The family is very appreciative of the many kind people who took care of him in his last years, but especially Alisha Linder, Hyacinth Norris and Antonia Cespedes. There will be a memorial and a celebration of life to be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, Florida.
