Funeral services for Sylvia M. Kycek, daughter of William and Betty (Slaveck) Jilek, 91, of Hayward, Minn., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences are welcome at bayviewfuneral.com. Sylvia died Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. Sylvia Marie Kycek was born on Aug. 24, 1925, in Myrtle, Minn. She grew up in Myrtle and graduated from Albert Lea High School. On June 3, 1945, Sylvia married Ernest Kycek. She was a member of Hayward Lutheran Church, ZCBJ Lodge 44, Greenwood Cemetery Association and the Hayward Garden Club. She enjoyed baking, bird-watching, gardening and collecting teddy bears. She also loved getting together with family and friends and entertaining. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Judy Kycek Nishimura (partner Steve Marcuson); grandchildren, Dr. Adam Nishimura, of Seattle, Wash., and Cassie Nishimura, of Owatonna; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and William Jilek; sister, Violet Jilek Kycek; husband, Ernest; and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Memorials are preferred to ZCBJ Lodge 44, Greenwood Cemetery Board or Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.
