Baum, Sylvia E.Sylvia Elizabeth (Copeland) Baum passed away on November 3, 2016 at her home in Babcock, WI. She was born on August 16, 1924 in Rabbit Hollow near Finley, WI to Raymond Copeland and Luella Teeters. She was the youngest of five children. Sylvia grew up and spent her adult life near Babcock. She was active in the United Church of Christ there and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years, teaching the boys tracking, plant identification, tapping of maple trees and cooking over a campfire.Sylvia worked at the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill until her marriage to Harold M. Baum on August 12, 1960. She worked at Baum's IGA store in Pittsville, WI. She later became a meat cutter at various grocery stores, finally retiring in 1997.In the 1960's Sylvia served on the Board, as Vice President, and then President of the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. She and her husband enjoyed the annual National Conventions and attended them in their camper with kids and grandkids in tow, traveling to nearly all 50 states.Sylvia was artistic and liked oil painting, ceramics, and writing poetry. She loved anything that involved the outdoors. Fall was her favorite season, but she always made a big deal out of Christmas. She loved cooking and was always a volunteer for spaghetti suppers, etc. Even as she became less active, she still had the desire to raise vegetables and flowers to brighten her yard, to make submarine sandwiches and monster cookies for her grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, Raymond and Luella Copeland, her five siblings, Josie Griswald, Frances, George, Gerald, and Thomas Copeland.She leaves behind five children: Debby (Copeland) Burke of Sun Prairie; Daphne Copeland, Wis. Dells; Russell (Carrie) Copeland, Dexterville; John (Gale) Baum, Pittsville; and Robin (Cyndi) Baum, Nekoosa, as well as 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all of them.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville, where the visitation will be from 12:00 pm until service time on Thursday. Rev. Wanda Veldman will officiate. Interment will be in Babcock Cemetery followed by lunch at the United Church of Christ in Pittsville. Condolences may be sent online to
