Susan Dacey Young1939-2016Susan D. Young passed away on August 29, 2016 after a brief illness. She was a resident of Houston since 1969 having moved here from El Paso, Texas. She was born on July 9, 1939 to Lyle and Helen Dacey. She attended Texas Tech University for two years before returning to El Paso to finish her degree in education from UTEP. She and her high school sweetheart, Ray were married in 1960. She taught school in El Paso for three years until she had her first child. She went on to have two more children and was able to stay at home taking care of them. She returned to teaching in Spring Branch ISD and taught for twenty two years, retiring in 1999. After retirement she devoted time to her church family, MDPC. She was also playing tennis until five years ago. She loved to travel, read, study the scripture, foster shelties, spend time with her grandchildren and garden. Ray and Susan were blessed to have traveled to Europe, South America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and numerous places in the US. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Kay Young. She is survived by her loving husband Ray, of 55 years. Other survivors include: her daughter, Kathy and husband Allan Hooks of Houston; her son Steven Young and wife Elizabeth of Dallas. Her grandchildren Jacob, Andrew and Grace Young; Heather Meehan, Kyle, Kaitlyn and Brad Hooks; sister Lynn McClure, brother and sister in law Pat and Sandy Young. Nieces: Amanda Bush, Courtney Zenner, Debbie Fralick and Cheryl Hozdish. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church at 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024 or Houston Sheltie Sanctuary PO Box 840235 Houston, Texas 77284-0235 in her memory.
