Geiger, SusanSusan J. Geiger, 81, of Neenah, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. She was born on September 29, 1935, in Neenah, the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Hoffman) Garnes. Susan graduated from Menasha High School, the Class of 1955. In 1956, Susan was united in marriage to John F. "Butch" Geiger in Neenah. Susan was a hard working, independent woman. She worked for the Neenah Joint School District as a teacher's aide with special education students for 27 years, retiring at the age of 70. For nearly three decades, her compassion and commitment to her students was evident in her daily interactions. Susan was a feisty, tough spirit. She didn't hold back. She said what was on her mind and held firm to it. Those that knew her found this to be one of her most admirable qualities. Susan's greatest love was being a mom. She raised her five children on the shores of Lake Winnebago and parented full throttle. Among other things, she hunted, fished, ice skated, coached softball teams, bowled, and played golf with her children. Susan was the happiest at family get-togethers with laughter and way too much of her amazing food. Susan's grandchildren were the love of her life. She attended hundreds of her grandchildren's sporting events, birthday parties and played countless card games with them. Although, she rarely let them win. Susan seldom sat idle, she spent endless hours tending to her beautiful gardens and well manicured yard. In her spare time, Susan enjoyed traveling to warm destinations with her family. She was also an avid reader. Susan's life ended the way she lived it, with dignity and strength. Susan is survived by her children: Julie Behrens, John (Barbara) Geiger, Gretchen Geiger, Molly (Jim) Ferris; grandchildren: Bryan, Adam, Samantha, Jonathan, Olivia, and Sydney; great-grandchildren: Isla and Miles; sister: Karen Bjerkvol, and many other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Michael Geiger, and sister: Gretchen Mileti.In accordance with Susan's wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life for immediate family has been held.Susan's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Neenah's ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, especially the ER and the 5th floor care team. Special thanks to her devoted daughter, Gretchen, for her selfless companionship and care.
