Susan Jepson, 101, of Mercer Island, Washington, United States, passed Tuesday, May 14, 2019. Susan was born March 17, 1918 in Miami, Arizona to Robert W. Hughes and Verna E. Hughes.

Susan Ellen Hughes Jepson went beyond onto another journey on May 14, 2019 after 101 years of an amazing life. She is survived by her 3 children, their spouses, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Son, William Hughes Jepson (Eva Long), Lianne Jepson (Tom Doughtey, Nico, Lua), Anthony Jepson, Bianca Jepson (Juliette), Anbrit Long Cook (Jonathan Cook, Elsa, Oscar, Margeaux), George Long (Weston, Everly). Daughter, Julianne Jepson (Daniel Wilson), Nicole Jepson Perkins (Nabil Baddou, Jazil, Ayla), Paul Jepson Perkins (Tara Sansaver, Paxton Jepson Perkins), Lisa Reimer (Eddie Thompsen, Evelyn, Mae). Sue was a graduate in geology at Oberlin at the age of 20. After marrying Alfred Bate Jepson she left her birthplace in Miami, Arizona and joined him in Seattle where he was an aeronautical engineer at Boeing. They bought a cabin on the lake and flourished for eight magical years remodeling, bearing children, sailing, hiking, skiing, square dancing, gardening, immersed in community activities and close friends. When he became a quadriplegic from polio at age 33, Sue rose to the lifechanging challenge with grace and steadfastness. Besides raising her children and caretaking her husband, she was a Boeing secretary for him for 30 years. Their friends exchanged dancing for a close knit play reading group. She ensured that her children led a well-rounded childhood, including chores, road trips with their father and outdoor activities. She and Al lived by the Optimists Creed and carried on with a giving spirit, bravado, humor, hard work and grace. She was an inspiration in all these ways: Nurturer, caretaker, employee, Cub Scout leader, cook, loving mother, friend, painter, sculptor, pianist, gardener, nature lover, horsewoman, airplane pilot, world traveler. She was smart, literary, creative, artistic, funny, compassionate, sincere, stimulating, truthful, dependable, trustworthy, grateful, resourceful, curious, ethical, self-reliant... Sunshine Sue.
