DERBY-Farber, Steven R. "Bob", Sr. Cessna Engineer, passed away April 6, 2016, at the age of 64. He was born on February 23, 1952, to Jack and Gayle Farber and brought home to a rural Mulvane farm he would maintain for the rest of his life. Growing up, Bob enjoyed harvesting crops, dressing chickens, castrating cattle, and baling hay. When he wasn't enjoying these finer aspects of rural life, his attention turned to music. Bob was an excellent trumpeter and soloist. His ability on the trumpet was only surpassed by his outstanding whistling skills - hence his nickname "Sugar Lips Farber". In between farming and music, Bob became interested in building and racing drag cars. This hobby caught fire after the family's 1968 Chevy Impala actually did catch fire providing him with a hot chassis. Bob graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Manufacturing Technology. While attending WSU, Bob started working at Cessna Aircraft Corporation. This was the beginning of Bob's 44 year career with some of his favorite people and most of his favorite practical jokes. Bob's years as an engineer at Cessna allowed him to meet and work with individuals he loved and respected. The best part of his employment was meeting the love of his life, Yvonne. Yvonne and Bob had many fun trips and adventures in their 22 years of marriage. During his last six months, Yvonne was his constant companion and loyal caregiver. She cheered him along his final journey and made those days worth living. Bob was blessed with two sons, Steven and Jonathan. He was proud of the men they had become and thankful for their time and energy when he needed it most. Bob enjoyed spending time with both his and Yvonne's families and especially at events held at the Red Barn at Farber Farms. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Grover and Ethel Farber; and his older brother, H. Louis Schneider. Survivors include his devoted wife, Yvonne; sons, Steven R. Farber Jr. (Marian) of Derby, Jonathan D. Farber (Krysta) of Derby, Paul Legge (Debbie) of Newborn, GA; daughter, Lee-ann Legge Caudle (Jerry) of Wichita: brother, Frank Schneider (Shannon) of Texas; sister, Mary Steelman (Scott) of Blue Springs, MO; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and two very special boys, Jackson and Dylan Farber. The family would like to thank the staff and support of Integris Baptist Hospital of Oklahoma City. Bob will be remembered for his big personality laced with colorful humor, his constant friendship, his capacity to help folks that needed help, and his ability to charm the old and entertain the young. His arrival in Heaven will be a delight to many - but much too soon for those he left behind.
