May 03, 1954 - May 25, 2013

This obituary is administered by:
Steve Shaw, 59, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at his home in Ellensburg, WA. He was born on May 3, 1954 in Ellensburg to Fred and Maxine Shaw. Steve graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1972 and being an avid athlete was part of the State Championship football and basketball teams in 1971 and 72, making the All-Conference Football Team in 1972. Steve attended Central Washington University, lettering all four years playing football. He was honored by being selected to the All-Evergreen Conference three of those years. Steve continued his passion for football and started the Ellensburg Grid Kid Program in 1994, which continues today. While attending Central, Steve met the love of his life, CWU cheerleader, Phyllis (Thorfinson) Shaw. They married July 31, 1976 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ellensburg. Steve began working for his parents at Electric Supply and Appliance, eventually purchasing the business and transitioned it into Shaw's Furniture and Appliance in 1986. Under Steve's leadership and active membership with the Pacific Furniture Dealers (northwest furniture buying group), the business has become a major retailer in downtown Ellensburg. Not yet seriously considering retirement, Steve continued working daily at the store with his sons. The first and foremost priority in Steve's life was his family. His greatest and most recent joy was being with his four granddaughters. He was a devoted son, husband and father, who was always looked to for advice. Quiet and thoughtful, he could be counted on to offer wisdom and strength in resolving problems and dilemmas. Steve was admired by all who knew him for his kindness, work ethic, honesty and steady presence. He conducted his life honorably. Simply and truly a "great guy". These attributes will forever be ingrained in the memories of those left behind. Steve was a devoted hunter and outdoorsman, hunting the Kittitas Valley as well as out of state. He was a member of Kittitas County Field and Stream Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the One Shot Club of Lander, Wyoming. Preceded in death by his father, Fred Shaw, Steve is survived by his wife Phyllis (Thorfinson) Shaw, his three children, Casey (Ann) Shaw, Rusty (Kristin) Shaw, Daniel (Emily) Shaw, grandchildren Makena, Sarah, Taylor and Kinsley; mother Maxine (Hay) Shaw; siblings Cyndie (Glenn Richarson) Phillips, Jim (Julia) Shaw, Bob (Maureen) Shaw and loving nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ellensburg High School gymnasium on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 1pm. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to individual's .
