Stanford C. "Bud" StoddardStanford  C. "Bud"  Stoddard was born on December 28, 1930 to Jennie Creer and Howard James Stoddard. His early years were spent in Salt Lake City, Utah, Grosse Pointe and East Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1948 where he was active in athletics and drama. Bud attended the University of Michigan, where he was president of Sigma Chi, and trained with the ROTC. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in business. During the Korean conflict, he served in the United States Army as a second lieutenant and quartermaster. He took great pride in serving his country. Bud married Ann Hagemeir Dietrich on June 28, 1958 in Lansing, Michigan. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple.Bud and Ann were the parents of three children, Elizabeth, Stanford (Buddy) and Simeon. The family has lived in the Bloomfield Hills area for nearly sixty years. Ann passed away in 2001. Bud married Dixie Schoenhals of Salt Lake City in 2005.During his career, Bud was president of Michigan Bank and later chairman and CEO of Michigan National Corporation. Along with his father, he helped pioneer new and innovative practices in consumer and commercial banking. He loved banking. He also loved Michigan. He was proud that during his life he visited almost every city and town in the state. Bud was very active in civic and philanthropic endeavors including serving as chairman of the Founders Society of the Detroit Institute of Arts and Counsel General to Japan. He worked with countless charities. He also served on numerous corporate and educational boards including Brigham Young University, Southern Virginia University and Madonna College. He received an honorary doctorate from Olivet College in 1977. Bud was most honored to be the recipient of the Prime Minister's Award from the State of Israel. Bud was always interested in new adventures and loved to travel. His family cherishes their many memories of his enthusiasm for exploring the world. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served for many years in the Chicago, Toronto and Detroit temples. He lived the life of an everyday missionary and loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bud had an indomitable spirit, an unstoppable will and boundless energy. He died on February 26, 2017, in St. George, Utah.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Howard and sister Virginia. He is survived by his wife Dixie Schoenhals Stoddard; his brother Charles Creer Stoddard; daughter Elizabeth Taggart (Christopher), and sons Stanford (Justine), and Simeon (Melinda). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Matthew Taggart (Stacy), Mark Taggart (Caroline), Catherine Baughman (Douglas), Sarah Roueche (Daniel), Scott Stoddard (Cynthia), Mary Taggart, William Stoddard, Thomas Stoddard (Kacie), and Maria Stoddard along with nine great grandchildren.Family will receive friends Sunday, 5 - 7 p.m. at A. J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), 248-549-0500. Funeral service Monday 10 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 37425 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills, 48304.
