Sonja Seamons Nyman Obituary
Apr 18, 1938 - Jan 01, 2016
This obituary is administered by:
Sonja Seamons Nyman passed away Jan. 27, 2015, at Logan Regional Hospital from kidney failure. She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed from this life into the next. She battled Alzheimer's disease and many other health challenges for many years, and she is finally free from a mind and body that held her back for so long.Sonja was born on April 18, 1938, to James Williams Seamons Jr. and Vella Aleta Saunders Seamons. She grew up in Hyde Park, Utah, and graduated from South Cache High School. In her career, she was an administrative assistant for 27 years at the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University. She also spent years ushering at Utah State football and basketball games. She was going to be there anyway cheering on her Aggies, so she decided she might as well get paid. She married Hubert Gary Nyman. They were later divorced, but that union gave her the two children she cherished. She was the best mother that we could have asked for. As she raised us as a single mother, we didn't have much, and she sacrificed anything that she might have wanted to give us everything she could. Sports were a big part of Sonja's life. In her younger years, she played fast-pitch softball. Later in life, she was a bowler and spent many years bowling with the Wednesday Night Ladies bowling league. She was an avid Utah State Aggies, Utah Jazz, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Yankees fan. Life was good when her teams won, but you didn't want to be around her when they lost!Sonja was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite years were spent serving in the Young Women's organization. She loved the young women and they loved her. She has many adopted daughters from that period of her life. We would like to thank the many wonderful aides at Caring Hearts who cared for Mom so lovingly during the past year and a half. Mom (also known as "Trouble") was much loved by the aides and other families because of her sense of humor and spunky attitude. Maybe it's just because she is ours, but we're pretty sure she was everyone's favorite resident.Sonja is survived by her children, Gary Michael Nyman of Logan, and Donna Kaye (Stephen) Bell of North Logan, Utah; a step-granddaughter, Alyssa Bell of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Marlene (Thom) Slater of Centerville, Utah and Marcia Moss of Logan, Utah; a brother-in-law, Nathan Friedli of Logan; a sister-in-law, Joyce Seamons of Providence, Utah; and her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Kenneth Seamons and Farres Seamons, a sister, Sharon Friedli, a nephew, Douglas Slater, and a niece, Holly Ann Moss.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home. Condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.nymanfh.com. Funeral services will be at noon Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at the North Logan 5th Ward Chapel, 2750 N. 800 East, in North Logan. A viewing will be prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A viewing will also be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday (Saturday, not Sunday. Anyone that knows Sonja knows that she would never stand for her viewing interfering with Super Bowl parties.) Both viewings will be held at the chapel. Burial will follow the funeral services at the North Logan City Cemetery. We love you, Mom… always and forever! See ya later, alligator…
