RACINE - Shirley (née: Peterson) Woodland "Grandma", 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 in Marion, Ohio. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on January 15, 1938, the daughter of Stanley Peterson and Virginia (née: Olsen) DeDeyene. A graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, Shirley's working career included Oster Mfg., Professional Positioners, as well as in-home daycare for many years. Her love of animals and nature was obvious. Over the years, she had raised countless puppies, kittens, exotic birds, ducks, chickens, geese, rabbits, goats, a horse and an occasional injured wild animal. Her yard was certified as a natural Backyard Habitat for Wildlife. Shirley enjoyed relaxing on her pontoon boat and entertaining in her beautiful back yard along the Root River. She also loved oil painting, and had created many portraits for family, friends and neighbors. Shirley was a member of the art group, The Geezers. Surviving are her three children, Lane (Denia) Woodland of Eden Prairie, MN, Robin (Haza) Eddauod of Marion, OH and Dawn (Michael) Dresen of Racine; five grandchildren, Sami Eddauod, Ryad Eddauod and Alia Eddauod all of Ohio, Jacob Dresen and Mitchell Dresen of Racine; sister, Susan (John) Strasburg of Greendale. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, close cousins and many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Charles DeDeyne and special friend, Richard Sorensen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at River Bend Nature Center Lodge, 3600 N. Green Bay Road in Racine at 11:00 a.m. A special thank you to Dr. Bendok and the neurological team at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago.
