Thomas, ShirleyShirley A. Thomas, 71, Allouez, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017.She was born on June 27, 1945 to the late Adrian O. and Eva (Peterson) Reinhart. On September 30, 1967, she married Steve Thomas in Algoma. Shirley worked as a hair stylist at J.C. Penny and also as a sales associate in the men's department. She also worked at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley where she made many lasting friendships.Following the deaths of her children in a vehicle accident on State Highway 57 in 1994, Shirley made it a lifelong goal to ensure this tragedy would never come to another family. She worked diligently alongside community leaders and citizens to expand the highway to 4 lanes, making it safer for everyone to travel. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Steve. Although their children have passed away, Steve and Shirley remained close to their children's spouses and families. Surviving are Randy and Ronda Kopchinski and their children, Courtney and Nathan; Lisa (Dumke) (husband Jeff) Ziegert and their children, Mason and Jordan; brothers, Al (Lana) Reinhart and Don (Ellen) Reinhart; brother-in-law, Tom Thomas and his friend Connie; sister-in-law, Mary Thomas. many special friends.She is preceded in death by her children, Steve, Jr.; Stacie Thomas Kopchinski and Stephanie.Family and friends may visit at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 514 S. Clay St., Green Bay, on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 9:30am until 11:45am. The funeral service will follow at 12:00pm with the Rev. Jon Zabell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery beside her children. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established for a scholarship at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation in the Thomas/Kopchinski name.Our family would like to extend our gratitude to the caregivers at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, especially the ICU, and to the nurses of Aurora Hospice for their wonderful care and concern shown Shirley and all of us.
