HORLEN, Shirley Mae On December 14, 2016, our beloved mother Shirley Mae Horlen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home. We are heartbroken and will miss her dearly, but she is now at peace after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Shirley was born on December 16, 1932 to Earl and Nellie Enderson. She graduated from North Central High School in 1950. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Maurice Horlen, and they shared sixty-one happy years together until his death in April 2016. A devoted stay-at-home mom for eighteen years, she decided to enroll in college at the age of forty. After completing two years, she first worked for a Spokane architectural firm and then spent the rest of her career at Comerco. Shirley's interests included a love of gardening, traveling, cooking, interior decorating, and shopping. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family-whether it be gathering together for Sunday dinner or building a sandcastle on the Oregon coast with her grandchildren. Her beautiful flower gardens were her trademark. Her greatest joy in life was her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life centered around her family and her home was filled with love, kindness, and happiness. She always took the time to make everyone in her life feel important. Her home was her haven and everyone always felt welcome there. Anyone who met her knew what a truly special and gentle soul she was. Her family will be forever grateful for the loving and caring life she lived and the living legacy she leaves behind. Her life was a blessing; her memory a treasure. She is survived by her children: Jeff (Jody) Horlen, Lisa (Doug) Olsen, Julie (Jim) Psomas; sisters: Maxine Donoian and Patsy Severson; and five cherished grandchildren: Stefanie (Jason) Grivois, Willie (Danielle) Horlen, Ryan Horlen, Hunter Olsen, and Jimmy Psomas; her first precious great-grandson, Mason William Horlen was born on what would have been her 84th birthday, December 16, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Maurice, brother Raymond Enderson, and her parents. A private family memorial will be held. The family wishes to thank "Love At Home Senior Care" for the compassionate and loving care they provided for our mother. Words cannot express our gratitude to them. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the P.O. Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20090-6011.
