BURLINGTON - Shirley J. LaBelle, 87, passed away at her home, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, with her loving family at her side as she said her final good bye. Shirley was born on the family farm in Walworth County to Roy and Margaret Lemmerhirt on February 11, 1926. She was a graduate of Burlington High School, Racine-Kenosha Teachers College and later Whitewater State University. Shirley began her teaching career in a one room school in Walworth County. She then taught for fifteen years at the Junior High in Burlington. On February 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward LaBelle at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Slades Corners. He preceded her in death January 13, 2008. Shirley was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, Burlington, for 38 years; a
VFW Auxiliary member; served on the library board and many other community functions. She was a member of Cross Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees. She looked forward to the monthly Bible Study meetings of Elizabeth Circle, and the friends she cherished in the group. Shirley and Ed enjoyed traveling, visiting all fifty states, Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe. She loved gardening, reading, antiques, family history, and friends. Above all, her first love was her family and being a wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. Shirley is survived by her children, Kathryn (Larry) Busch of Bossier City, LA and Thomas (Mary Erin) LaBelle of New Berlin; five grandchildren, Tim (Tamara) Busch of Santa Fe, NM, Kerry (James) Mason of Hampstead, NC , Jessica (David) Bungard of Shreveport, LA; Erin and Ian LaBelle of New Berlin; and four great grandchildren, Nathanyal and Briana Mason, and Shelby and Justin Bungard. She is further survived by two sisters, Beverly (William) Ford of Orlando, FL and Joy Kerkhoff of Imperial Beach, CA; brother, Lowell (Yvonne) Lemmerhirt of Powers Lake; sister-in-law, Jeanne LaBelle; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends she made as she journeyed through a long and wonderful life. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Mary Lynn LaBelle, brother-in-laws, Rod Kerkhoff and William LaBelle. Services for Shirley will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Carolyn Sellers officiating.
