SHIRLEY ANN BOELK, 78 LENA - Shirley Ann Boelk, 78, of Lena "On The River", died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Freeport. She was born on August 25, 1936 in Stephenson County, the son of John and Flora (Boland) Heckman. She worked at Micro Switch for 12 years. Shirley married William "Willie" Boelk Jr. on August 28, 1954 in Freeport. He died on May 6, 2010. Shirley enjoyed Crocheting, Sewing, crafts and country music, especially George Strait. Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Birgit) Boelk of Kalona, IA., William (Susan) Boelk of Freeport and John (Virginia) Boelk of Lena; two daughters, Terrie Halstead of Freeport and Penny (Tom) Singer of Machesney Park; one sister, Doris Walters of Moline, IL; brother- in-law, Lenny Hagemann; also eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Susan Blackmore; and sister, Alice Hagemann. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, with Rev. William Blomberg officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in her name.
